The Greater Shillong Water Supply Committee has recently been formed with the Deputy Commissioner as the Chairman. The Superintending Engineer, PHE is the Member-Convener of the Committee. The Committee would work with the following aims and objectives:-
Altogether Greater Shillong Town has been segregated into 10 (ten) Zones and 5 (five) Teams each headed by an Executive Magistrate would move around these areas to ensure adequate and uninterrupted water supply everyday. The Teams would commence their work from 8th of March, 2004 by inspecting each and every locality as per area allotted and by contacting the local Headmen, Secretaries of the various localities. In case of any water shortage problem in Shillong Town a complaint may also be registered at the Control Room in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office between 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at 2224003. The Headmen would also be given the telephone numbers/cell numbers of all the Team Leaders allotted to different areas whom they should contact in case of any shortage of drinking water.
The Committee has also convened a meeting with all the Headmen/Secretaries of all the localities in Shillong Town on the 8th March, 2004 at 3:00 PM.
This is the first package designed by the District Administration to counter the current problems faced by the citizens of Shillong and the second package regarding garbage cleaning and scavenging activities is under preparation.
